Reed’s

Education

Reed has a Bachelor’s degree in History with a minor in Anthropology from Yale University. He was a charter member of the Hunger Project, the founding chairman of the Grameen Foundation USA, and a board member of Chiapas International. Reed is currently a board member of Trees for Life and the Jane Goodall Foundation. Once an avid polo player, Reed now enjoys cycling, reading, and spending time with his family.

How It All Started

A movement that aimed to transform – Reed joined the Hunger Project in 1977 as one of the founding members, a movement that aimed to transform the way the world perceived and addressed hunger and starvation.

The vision was to educate, inspire and empower people around the world to end the worst impacts of hunger and malnutrition in our generation. Back then, the world population was 4.5 billion, with about 35,000 children dying every day from hunger-related causes, and hunger was seen as inevitable. Now, the world population is 7.6 billion, with about 10,000 children dying every day from hunger-related causes, and hunger is recognized as an unacceptable injustice that will be eliminated in our generation.

preserving and enhancing the planet

Reed and Gabrielle’s most remarkable accomplishment has been to instill a sense of curiosity and ethical activism in their children – Sophie, Eric, Meaghan and Luke – who have all grown into competent professionals committed to preserving the planet and enhancing the human condition.

Unleash Potential through education and the arts

Gabrielle’s passion has been to unleash the potential of young people through education and the arts, with a focus on providing learning opportunities and skills to children in urban areas and working with diverse stakeholders in urban communities to foster a more peaceful and inclusive atmosphere through the arts. Gabrielle served on the Museum Aid Panel of the New York State Council on the Arts, was a reviewer for the National Endowment for the Humanities, was Assistant Director of the Brooklyn Children’s Museum, and designed children’s museums in the United States and overseas.
